The Life at the Boundary Roadshow brings the latest Hikurangi subduction zone science and hazard impact information to North Island communities, in areas likely to be affected by an Hikurangi subduction zone earthquake and tsunami.
The Hikurangi subduction zone is New Zealand's largest and most active fault, stretching offshore Gisborne down to the top of the South Island.
Recent science suggests the likelihood of a Hikurangi fault rupture may be higher than initially understood.
We now know a Hikurangi subduction zone earthquake and tsunami could unfold in many ways and the reality is, it's not a matter of if, but when.
While we can’t predict when earthquakes will occur, scientific research has shown that the Hikurangi subduction zone has a history of generating large earthquakes and tsunami.
Join Dr Caroline Holden and Kate Boersen to hear the latest Hikurangi subduction zone science and hazard impact information at the free public events.
Local emergency management advisors will also be there to answer any questions you might have.
The Life at the Boundary Roadshow is kindly funded by Earthquake Commission (EQC).
